The Upstate Family Birth Center offers a safe, comfortable place to welcome your baby into the world. We work with you and your provider to provide the birth experience you seek, and further support you with team members including physicians, midwives, neonatal practitioners, specialty-trained nurses, and anesthesia.

For those who would like to experience natural childbirth using alternative pain management, our skilled obstetricians and certified nurse midwives offer various options including birthing balls and hydrotherapy, and we welcome coaching by doulas.

And Upstate does all of this in the spa-like setting of its newly renovated, $9.2 million post-partum renovation.

Recently unveiled, the renovations now mean that after leaving recovery after the birth of her child, mom and baby will go to one of 21 brand-new, private, post-partum couplet rooms. In addition to a bed for mom and bassinet for baby, every post-partum room features gliders and extra room for visitors—including a sleeper sofa so loved ones can stay nearby.

Every room has its own bathroom with a walk-in shower and bench, in-room shelving, counter and closet space, WiFi access and charging stations, a flat-screen TV and an additional sink that is specially shaped to bathe a newborn.

In addition to the 21 private rooms, the renovations also included:

  • A 2,585-square-foot, six-bed nursery that includes warmers and incubators with top technology to monitor the baby’s breathing and heart rate. As part of the nursery, there is also an isolation room if the baby needs to be kept separate from the others.
  • An additional private room near the nursery if mom has been discharged but baby has to stay in the hospital, allowing the family to stay together overnight.
  • A dedicated lactation room for moms to breastfeed and work one-on-one with lactation consultants.
  • A spacious family lounge area with a white stone decorative fireplace, kitchen area and vending machines.

The new post-partum area further enhances the established birth experience that includes six, private, labor and delivery suites with state-of-the-art delivery beds, large Jacuzzi tubs. The center also has two surgical delivery rooms for obstetric complications and Cesarean deliveries.
